DORSET - The Dorset Players continue their 85th anniversary season with Arthur Miller's classic drama: "The Crucible." Proudly sponsored by Circa50, performances will be held on March 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and on March 10 and 17 at 2 p.m.

"The Crucible" dramatizes the hysteria that accompanied the witch trials that occurred in Salem, Massachusetts in1692. The characters include believers, deceivers and those caught in-between when rumors run amuck and accusers and victims alike are left to reap the whirlwind.

"The Crucible" remains as relevant today as when it was first produced during the era of the Joseph McCarthy hearings in the 1950s.

It pointedly asks the audience to place themselves in the position of John Proctor, a farmer of conscience who must decide whether to perjure himself by naming others in order to save his skin, or speak the truth and save his soul.

Director Kevin O'Toole has marshaled a talented cast of 21 experienced actors from 11 towns in Vermont and New York. Jim Young of Londonderry, featured as Bob Cratchit in the Players' 2010 production of "A Christmas Carol," portrays John Proctor. Elisabeth Hazelton of West Pawlet, familiar to many for her leading roles in the 2011 Players' production of "Agnes of God" and 2005's "Proof," will be John Proctor's troubled wife, Elizabeth.

Caroline Hogan of Poultney will play Reverend Parris's servant, Abigail Williams, who tempts John Proctor and becomes his wife's main accuser. Bill Cruikshank, also of Poultney, will portray Parris, who appears more concerned for his personal station then for the welfare of his congregation.

Tickets will be $20 for adults and $10 for those under 19. On opening night, Friday, March 8, members may buy one ticket and get another ticket for that night free of charge! For tickets, call the box office at 802-867-5777. For more information about "The Crucible," or about becoming a member of The Dorset Players, visit the Players' website at www.dorsetplayers.org.
