The goal will be for each student to build a wire armature for either a standing figure, standing animal or a portrait and then carry this to completion in the clay ready for casting. Ideas and other reference materials will be provided; students are also welcome to bring pictorial ideas of what they wish to sculpt. They will discuss if the subject is appropriate for their level of experience and for casting. Armature parts, wood bases, wire, and twenty pounds of oil based clay per student will be available for purchase directly from the instructor at cost.
This workshop is appropriate for beginners as well as returning sculptors.
Classes will be conducted from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday in the Madeira Education Center on the Southern Vermont Art Center campus off West Road; tuition is $320 for members and $345 for non-members. Interested artists can register online at www.svac.org or call Jennifer Grigsby at 362-1405 with questions.
