Stanley will succeed Daren Houck, who is leaving The Mountain School at Winhall to become Head of School at The Lyndon Institute, in Lyndon Center, Vermont. Houck has led MSW since 2004 and overseen a dramatic rise in students' standardized test scores in math and reading, well above the Vermont state averages. Additionally, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges accredited the school for the first time in 2011.
"I am so very pleased to be named Head of School at The Mountain School at Winhall," Stanley stated. "There have been many successes in the school's past and I am eager to add to the list. I am also attracted to the school's town academy model and its stature as an independent school with a public purpose."
Stanley is a long time resident of NW Connecticut and received her B.A. in English from Skidmore College. Upon graduation in 1987, she began her teaching career as an English teacher, drama director, skiing and tennis coach, and dorm head at Marvelwood School, at that time, located in Cornwall, Conn. She went on to obtain a Master's degree in education, with a focus on special education, from SUNY, New Paltz. Teaching in both private and public schools over the last 20 years, Trish has worked with children of all ages in regular and special education programs.
"We are delighted that Trish Stanley will be joining our community to lead MSW in the coming years," Larry Wohler, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at The Mountain School at Winhall, said of the appointment. "She possesses a rich educational background in both public and private schools and has a real passion for children, Vermont, and the outdoors."
Stanley is a lifelong skier, was a volunteer Ski Patroller at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, Conn. for the past seven years, and is now teaching skiing, on some weekends, at Mt. Snow. Stanley is a singer/performer, an avid road cyclist and an overall outdoorswoman. She and her partner /fianceé, Chris Eseppi, both love Vermont and are quite familiar with the Stratton/Winhall area. Stanley has a 16-year-old son, Griffin, from her first marriage, who attends New Hampton School in New Hampshire.
