MANCHESTER - Maple Street School held their fifth annual Wellness Day on March 8 to culminate the holistic health and wellness studies in all grades. With the expertise of local health and fitness instructors, students took part in active workshops offering curricular support on topics including nutrition, fitness, mental wellness and stress management, and various topics that explored and highlighted the mind-body connection.

Visiting presenters included Rich Marantz, local instructor of tai chi, Margi Putney from the Manchester Gym, who led upper-school girls in Sh'Bam, Julie Ring, who led lower school students in her fun yoga/storytelling combo activity, members of the Vermont Martial Arts Academy, who led students in introductory karate/martial arts lessons, Megan Cornell, Director of the Health Center at Burr & Burton Academy, and Marc Williams of Manchester Acupuncture and Herbs.

Maple Street faculty presenters included Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Health, Jeff Barclay; Head of School, Fran Bisselle; and Business Manager, Bettina Tuttle, who led sessions in cardiovascular fitness and training. Laura Brown, Kindergarten teacher and instructor at the Stratton Sports Center, led Zumba classes. Fourth grade teacher, Whitney Bellingham, led a nutrition workshop focusing on raw foods.

The Maple Street School Wellness Day committee was comprised of Barclay, Laura Brown, Whitney Bellingham, and upper school science teacher and local yoga instructor, Lisa Edry. Maple Street School students were thrilled with the workshops they attended, and the entire school community is grateful to these expert presenters.
