WEST PAWLET - Upon return to school during the week of Jan. 4, Mettawee Community School's fourth, fifth, and sixth graders participated in classroom level rounds of the National Geographic Geography Bee. All students did a great job participating and answering challenging questions about geography. From the classroom competition nine finalists moved on to the final round held at Mettawee's All-School Meeting on Jan. 8.

Mr. Rampone, the fourth grade classroom teacher once again organized this year's Geo Bee. It was fun this year to have retired principal Nancy Mark come back to Mettawee as the Geo Bee Moderator. Congratulations to the nine finalists: Nick Andrus (Grade 6), Kylie Breton (Grade 4), Emma Bryant (Grade 6), Hanna Bryant (Grade 6), Sam Freeman (Grade 6), Jade Marantz (Grade 4), Audra Marcus (Grade 4), Ben Park (Grade 4) and Jack Thrasher (Grade 5).

Jack Thrasher placed third overall and Sam Freeman came in second place. Mettawee Community School's Geo Bee Champion is Ben Park. The next step for Ben will be a written geography exam which he will take before the end of January. The school community hopes that Ben will be able to represent Mettawee at the State Geography Bee at Middlebury College later this spring.
