DORSET - The board of trustees of Long Trail School has announced that Steven E. Dear will be the new Headmaster of Long Trail School. Dear has been serving as the school's headmaster on an interim basis since last July.

Dear has been a member of the Long Trail and Northshire communities for more than seven years, according to a statement released by the school on Tuesday, Jan. 22, announcing the transition. Prior to his initial appointment as interim head of school, he served as the chairman of Long Trail's board of trustees. Dear resigned from his trustee post to lead the school in the 2012-2013 school year.

Dear has been married to his wife, Janie, for 34 years and has two children - Taylor, a senior at Montclair State University in New Jersey; and Lillian, who is currently a senior at Long Trail School.

According to the statement, the board of trustees was delighted with Dear's work at the school during this year and eager to move ahead under his leadership.

as the school has only entered into this process twice since its founding, the statement said.

The school was founded in 1975 by David and Rene Wilson, and began in a rented one-room space with 14 students. It occupies a 60,000 square-foot facility in Dorset with more than 50 faculty and staff members, according to its Web site. The independent school offers instruction from grades 6-12.
