WEST PAWLET - The public is invited to attend the Mettawee Community School's sixth grade performance of "The Phantom Tollbooth" on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.

"We're very excited to have the public enjoy this year's presentation of the sixth grade play, which has grown to encompass a residency with veteran actor and theater director John Hadden," says Mettawee Principal Brooke DeBonis.

Throughout this two and a half week residency, Mettawee sixth graders have been exploring various topics having to do with making the book come alive, as it were, by focusing on the power of the spoken language.

"This presentation of 'The Phantom Tollbooth' will not be a polished final performance," stressed Hadden, "But rather the culmination of all our work as a group, investigating all of the different pieces that come together in the development of a dramatic work."

Hadden, director, writer, and teaching artist, has been the recipient of many awards and accolades both at home and abroad. He was a founding member of Shakespeare and Co. in Lenox, Mass. and co-founded Counterpoint Theater of Boston. He is currently the artistic director of the Hubbard Hall Theater Co., and has spent much of his 30 year career bringing the experience of the dramatic arts to children.

Hadden's residency is supported by a grant and by generous contributions from the community.

"The Phantom Tollbooth" performance is free and open to the public.
