MANCHESTER/DORSET — Maple Street School and Long Trail School have entered into a partnership with Chittenden Central Supervisory Union to begin a Southern Vermont chapter of TAP, a Teacher Apprentice Program.
The Teacher Apprenticeship Program (TAP) is a program developed to assist qualified individuals to attain teaching licensure in Vermont through the state-approved Peer Review Process. The one-semester experience consists of a mentored student teaching internship and a series of seminars leading to middle-level or seven to 12 licensure.
Fran Bisselle, Head of Maple Street School, said, "The TAP program, as well as other teacher training opportunities, is critical to inspiring our educational communities to dialogue about excellence in teaching. We want to attract, support and develop the most effective teachers and school leaders in the state of Vermont, and I am thrilled to partner with Long Trail and TAP to bring this program to the Northshire. In addition, one of our apprentice program graduates, Anharad Edson, who is currently an art teacher at Long Trail School, will serve as a mentor this semester, which is a tribute to the dynamic learning community in our local schools."
Lavinia Lowerre will be the first TAP candidate and her internship at Maple Street School and Long Trail School begins in February. For more information about TAP, contact Scott Mosher smosher@ccsuvt.org.
