Turner has compiled a remarkable list of achievements playing pivotal roles in the stage management (sound, light, sets) for BBA's extensive production schedule, assisting with event production from fundraisers to graduation ceremonies, taking a hand in producing student films, and managing the annual Christmas Elf Express production. Twice she has been selected to sing at premiers of new works at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Turner participated in a summer research project in Mexico that entailed getting scuba certification.
Recent Manchester recipients of Rotary's Award for Excellence still pursuing their undergraduate degrees include Paige Malone, seeking a degree in Performance Arts and Expressive Therapy at UVM; Richard Siu, who attends Tufts pursuing a degree in Medicine with an interest in Global Health. Olivia Vastola studied in Italy this past year and expects to graduate next June from Endicott College with a degree in creative writing. Karolinka Sowulewska will graduate from Mt. Holyoke next year and intends to pursue a graduate degree in International Relations.
Tosha Hawley graduates this year from UVM with her degree in Clinical Psychology. Jesse Mach of Pawlet receives his degree from Castleton having studied anthropology with a focus on Central American cultures and having spent a year in Peru.
Manchester's Rotary Club received many applications this year, all of high caliber, all meriting an award. The Award Committee interviewed many students and deliberated at length to select the winner from among so many outstanding candidates. Consideration for the Award is based on character, personal effort and a demonstrated commitment to community service as well as financial need. Successful candidates exemplify the Rotary motto, Service above Self.
The Award for Excellence competition is open to students from the towns served by the Rotary Club of Manchester and to students who attend the three area secondary schools: BBA, Arlington Memorial, and Long Trail. The award provides $1,000 each year for up to four years of college undergraduate work.
