ARLINGTON >> An oil painter of exceptional talent, Kate Edwards of Schuylerville, N.Y., will be the featured artist at Arlington's Canfield Gallery in August. Her work will be on exhibit from Aug. 4 to Aug. 29, with an opening reception at the gallery on Aug. 6 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Because of her childhood experience moving with her family all around the US, Kate developed a deep love of the country's many varied landscapes, with their changing weather and seasons. This has strongly influenced her work, which, she says, "is about the things and places that surround me." Her goal with her art is "to capture the beauty and interest of everyday scenes and objects." Kate now lives in the beautiful countryside of upstate New York, where the farms and hillsides deeply inform her work. This is evident in the image above, "Late Winter" (oil on linen).
With a degree in Illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology, Kate Edwards has shown her work in galleries in Troy, Saratoga Springs, Rochester and Schuylerville, NY. She is represented by Three Pears Gallery in Dorset; Kettlewell & Edwards in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and in McCartee's Barn in Cambridge, N.Y.
The Canfield Gallery is located in the Martha Canfield Library on East Arlington Road in Arlington, and a portion of any sales from the gallery will go to support the library. Gallery hours are the same as library hours: Tuesday and Thursday. 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday. 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call the library at 802-375-6153 or visit the library's website at marthacanfieldlibrary.org.
