WESTON >> In the picturesque village of Weston, population 500, are two of Vermont's most iconic institutions, Weston Playhouse Theatre Company and The Vermont Country Store. The two organizations are commemorating their many years of service (80 and 70, each) with a daylong community celebration on Saturday, June 18. Everyone is invited.

A Birthday Bash Parade kicks off the festivities at 11 a.m. with Senator Patrick Leahy, Congressman Peter Welch, long-time Weston Company Member Sam Lloyd, and Vermont Country Store proprietor Lyman Orton at the start, followed by school kids on decorated bikes, community floats, antique tractors, classic cars, and more.

At noon, Weston's Young Company will lead a chorus of "Happy Birthday," followed by free birthday cake and ice cream, donated by King Arthur Flour and Wilcox Dairy. Daytime activities include a scavenger hunt, face painting, lawn games, and opportunities to engage with neighborhood organizations at their booths. From 1 – 4 p.m, live music on the Village Green includes the Blue Flames steel band, bluegrass trio The Merry Pranksters, and folk duo Hungrytown, plus a YoCo preview of SchoolHouse Rock, Live! Daytime events are free and open to the public.

Food and drink will be available for purchase throughout the day, so bring a picnic blanket or grab a seat under the tent for lunch. Enjoy burgers and dogs from the Weston Village Store, the Weston Rod & Gun Club's famous pulled pork, and artisan cheeses from Woodcock Farm. Plus, delicious items from the chefs at JJ Hapgood General Store, The Bryant House, the Inn at Weston, Apple Knoll Inn, the Southern Pie Company, and the Weston Women's Club.

A 7:30 p.m. Weston Playhouse Theatre Company Alumni Performance and Playhouse Party is also free to the public, but seating is limited and must be reserved with the Box Office at (802) 824-5288. The performance is followed by a 9:30 pm Open Mic in the Cabaret.

Daytime event parking is available at The Vermont Country Store and Walker Farm. Visitors arriving from points north may encounter a traffic detour due to bridge work. Visit westonplayhouse.org for specific travel suggestions.
