BENNINGTON >> On Sunday, May 1, three Mountain School at Winhall students competed in the 6th Annual Sarnoff Speech Contest at Southern Vermont College in Bennington and won both First and Second place.
Seventh graders from area schools were invited to write and present a "This I Believe" speech to be read aloud and judged by SVC students and Professors. There were a total of 22 students that competed from the following schools: Long Trail, Maple Street, Mount Anthony Union Middle School, The Mountain School at Winhall, and Pine Cobble School.
MSW was represented by Jaden Bouch, Kylie Cleanthes, and Celsey McMahon. Two of them won the first and second prizes out of the three given out.
MSW's Head of School, Patricia Stanley, said "The kids were fantastic and wrote and presented exceptionally well!"
Jaden Bouch took first prize and Celsey McMahon took second.
"Hearing their speeches read aloud in the theater, at the lovely castle on the hill at SVC, was truly special," Stanley said. "Our students exhibited great poise and skill and truly rose above some very tough competition. Their teachers, parents, and I are so very proud of them."
