MANCHESTER >> Last growing season the garden was full of people, flowers and veggies. This year we have a few plots available. The soil is very healthy and we only garden organically. The people are very friendly. Community garden members enjoy their own luscious spaces alongside the Youth Agriculture Project and MEMS. It's a real community effort.
This year five classes from MEMS will be planting plots to contribute to the school cafeteria and continue their farm to school efforts. They are in need of family volunteers to help maintain their garden plots during the summer. Contact Barbara Smith at the MEMS if interested in participating. It is a minimal commitment.
This spring MEMS is looking for students (who need community service credit) and other volunteers to work in the garden, and also youth to participate in the Youth Agriculture Project http://tutoringvermont.org/yap/.
The community garden is managed and funded by the Tutorial Center, and is a collaboration with Manchester Elementary and Middle School, Transition Town Manchester and the Town of Manchester.
A plot at the garden located at the Manchester Recreation Area includes a 20x20 area. The cost is minimal.
There is a work day scheduled Saturday, April 30 (May 7 rain date) from 9 a.m.-12. Stop by and find out more about the garden, or call the Tutorial Center at 802-362-0222 for YAP information, or email email@example.com.
