SHAFTSBURY >> The Board of Trustees at the Second Chance Animal Center has announced the appointment of their new Executive Director, Cathi Comar, as of Feb. 1.
Comar lives in Sunderland and has extensive experience in the non-profit field. A graduate of the University of Colorado, she has worked for the National Geographic Society in Washington, DC, the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City, the New Jersey Historical Society in Newark, NJ, and the Shelburne Museum in northern Vermont.
Comar's most recent position was as executive director of the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Manchester where she established public educational programs, raised funds for operational and special projects, and helped the museum to receive re-accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, a national organization that sets industry standards.
"The Board of Trustees and the staff are excited to have Cathi join us at this time in our organization's history," said Kimberly Gould, President of the Board. "We recently purchased land in Arlington, and we are working with Timothy D. Smith & Associates of North Bennington to design and build a new, state-of-the-art facility for our operations. Cathi's leadership experience will be invaluable as Second Chance undertakes this important project that will allow us to provide the best care for companion animals in need and expand our public outreach."
