MANCHESTER >> Maple Street School Head of School Dr. Fran Bisselle was recently named to the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) at the Annual Conference in San Francisco Feb. 24-26.
Bisselle has served on the NAIS Board of Trustees since February 2014 and is the Board's current Treasurer. She has also served on the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Board since 2010, serving on five accrediting committees throughout the East. As the Maple Street School Head of School for the past nine years, Bisselle has moved the school from a young, start-up school (est. 1998) to its current position of strength with 117 students.
"Fran's commitment to moving Maple Street School into the national dialog of independent school education is so advantageous to the school," said Maple Street Board of Trustees Chair Matt Samuelson. "By placing Maple Street squarely in the middle of regional and national independent school conversations, Fran has elevated the status of our school and our region in Vermont."
Bisselle said of her appointment to the Executive Committee of NAIS, "The National Association of Independent Schools is an outstanding organization that promotes high standards of educational quality and ethical behavior for its members."
The work of NAIS is important in fostering excellence among independent schools, Bisselle said. "Independent schools like Maple Street teach leadership skills, ambition and a dedication to others, and I believe independent schools make a lasting and life-long difference for our children," she said.
Recently, Bisselle was appointed as the Head of School for Hathaway Brown School in Cleveland, Ohio, where she will begin her new position in the summer. Maple Street School will welcome new Head of School Fanning Hearon in July.
