The Dorset Players will be presenting the children's holiday classic "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" starting Friday, Dec. 4 at the Dorset Playhouse.

DORSET — The Dorset Players' holiday production will be a charming stage rendering of Barbara Robinson's children's classic, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." Performances will be held on Dec. 4 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and on Dec.5,6,12 and 13 at 2 p.m.

The Herdman kids, the nastiest urchins imaginable, for whom swiping another kid's Twinkies is simply tasty fun, have taken this year's Christmas pageant by storm. When the story of the Nativity is read to them, however, the Herdman brats are genuinely moved, and in the end, against all odds, the production becomes the best Christmas pageant ever. In the meantime, of course, all heck breaks loose.

Director Kevin O'Toole and Musical Director Michael Gallagher have marshaled a talented cast of 30 adults and children from Londonderry, Pawlet, Manchester, Arlington, Sunderland and Dorset, as well as Salem, N.Y. Livia Barclay plays young Beth Bradley, who narrates the tale, and Reed Brown plays Beth's younger brother, Charlie, who starts all of the trouble. Becky Nawrath, Dawn Goetz, Ellen Toole and Ellie McNealus portray some of the ladies whose tongues wag when they hear that the Herdmans will be a part of the annual pageant.

Casey Vogel is Maxine, who knows that the short kids in the angel choir have to be in the front row. In addition to Livia Barclay and Jade Morantz, who plays the snobby Alice Wendleken, the other kids in the angel choir are Molly Flint, Aliza Marcus, Jaia French, Evelyn Mulroy, Grace McDonald, Ilsa Schaub, Anna Marcrow, and Kali Brandt.

Riley Vogel portrays Elmer, who would rather be anywhere else, and Lucas McChesney plays Hobie, who just remembered that his family will be in Philadelphia.

Tickets will be $15 for adults, and $9 for those ages 6 through 17. Children 5 years and under will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. For tickets, call 802-867-5570 or 802-867-5777. Tickets also are available online at
