Namaste is a Hindu word for "honoring the spirit within." Personal history of each soldier is important to help in reminisce techniques. The Soldiers Home is always open and they love to have visitors. This room is now furnished with new, comfortable couches and recliners, a TV monitor playing continually peaceful, relaxing images, and contains soothing fragrances. Range of motion is performed along with positioning the resident with decorative blankets and pillows and massage is done under illuminating floor lighting. The room also provides a view to a manmade trout fishing pond on the grounds of the home. The donation also provided more couches and chairs for the rest of the home. The Vermont Country Store provided soft couch and chair covers.
VFW Post 6471 contributed $12,000 in 2012 for outdoor patio furniture. The Soldiers Home in Bennington is separate from the VA and does not receive any funding from the VA administration. It's so important that the local community organizations contribute so much.
Rein Tofer, commander of the Manchester VFW said there are about 250 members of Post 6471 and this year they voted to use the majority of the money from an account specifically set aside to collect donations for their "comrade veterans.
