The concert, titled "Let's Dance," will be the only local performance of VSOÕs Summer Festival Tour. The performance will include melodies by Strauss, Delibes, Borodin, and Gershwin, dance hits from Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, the 1812 Overture and will conclude with fireworks.
"We are thrilled to be playing again at Hunter Park," said Alan Jordan, VSO Executive Director. "There's nothing else like this venue in Vermont. Riley Rink's pavilion provides a covered stage for the orchestra, with good acoustics and great lawn seating. And if the weather is questionable, there is enough indoor seating for the entire audience. A spectacular fireworks display will occur following the concert. Hunter Park will quickly become one of our favorite stops on this tour. A new summer tradition in Manchester will be born July 2nd!"
The gates open at 5 p.m. for picnicking and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. The concert will be held rain or shine, with covered seating available inside Riley Rink. Tickets will be sold at the door or can also be purchased in advance at Northshire Bookstore, the Dorset Union Store or the Winhall Market in Bondville. Tickets are also available online at vso.org.
"Music has been a part of this organization since our opening in 1997," said Stephen Murphy, the interim Executive Director of Hunter Park.
Other events hosted by Hunter Park this summer include Four-on-the-Forth 4 mile run/walk, the Summertime Antique Show and the Southern Vermont Sprint Triathalon. A variety of food picnic baskets are available for the concert. Picnic baskets need to be ordered in advance by calling Riley Rink at 362-0150 for the available options. Proceeds from food sales will fund Riley Rink's learn school skate programs for the upcoming ice season. Hunter Park is a non-profit athletic and events center located off of Rt. 7A, just north of Manchester Center. For more information on Hunter Park, visit its websites hunterpark.org and rileyrink.com.
