MANCHESTER - Equinox Village will be hosting professionals from the Community of Vermont Elders, the Southern Vermont Senior Medicare Patrol, and the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation for a discussion on Friday, June 20. Together they will pack the day with information that older adults can use to communicate with their state legislators and to recognize and avoid fraud.

The program includes:

The Basics of State Government and How to Communicate with Your Legislators 10 - 11 a.m. Gini Milkey, the executive director of the Community of Vermont Elders, will lead this workshop that will provide older adults with the most effective ways to communicate with their state legislators and other government organizations.

Community of Vermont Elders Policy Accomplishments & Priorities 1 p.m. Gini Milkey, executive director of COVE, will review COVE's policy priorities and ask audience members for their feedback regarding which issues they would like to see addressed by the group in the upcoming legislative sessions.

Savvy Seniors Discussion, Questions & Answers 1:30 p.m. The Sav vy Seniors theater group will share important messages through five fun and informative theatrical presentations. Topics covered will in clude investment, annuities, health care, and mail fraud and a variety of other consumer protection issues. Participants will learn how to recognize, avoid and report fraud and scams.

The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from such professionals as Southern Vermont Senior Medicare Patrol Coordinator Kelly McElheny and staff from Vermont's Department of Financial Regulation. The entire program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided mid-afternoon.
