GetBalance Exercise Class: 10 - 10:45 a.m. on Tuesdays. GetBalance features gentle and fun seated and standing rhythmic movement to increase balance and agility. Standing movements can be done supported or from a free-standing position. GetBalance is presented by Cornerstone Fitness and created and led by Chris Uchida: a personal trainer, past professional dancer, and licensed physical therapy assistant. Tai Chi for Seniors: 10 a.m. on Thursdays. Rich Marantz of Green Mountain Tai Chi leads interested seniors toward health and happiness using the methods and philosophies of Tai-chi chuan, Qigong and traditional Chinese external-qi healing. Introduction to Meditation for Seniors with Maggie Bernstein: 2 p m. on Thursdays. Bernstein has been a certified instructor in Tibetan Buddhist Meditation since 1986. She has a Ph.D. in psychology. She had a private practice in Manchester for 20 years and was a psychology instructor at Cornell. She also instructs a meditation class at Manchester Shambhala on Tuesday evenings. For this class, Berstein will explain what meditation is, the benefits of meditating and offer some time to practice meditation, perhaps for the first time. Classes will include more meditation and less discussion as the classes go on. There is no cost for residents. It is open to the public, and their cost is $10 per class.
Caregiver Support Group: 3 p.m. on Thursdays. Elizabeth Fredland, LICSW, and Monica Knorr, MSW, both therapists at The Spicer Center in Manchester, are offering a 6-week support group for caregivers at Equinox Village. The group can be beneficial for those who are providing care for aging parents, a spouse or a disabled child. Chair Yoga with Anna: 3 - 3:45 p.m. on Fridays. Certified Yoga instructor Anna Bushee leads this relaxing class. She completed her training at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis. Exercises in this class are done from a seated or supported standing position. The class is free for residents of Equinox Village. Tour for Good Week: Sunday, March 30 - Saturday, April 4. Those who tour at Equinox Village during this week will have $50 donated to the charity of their choice. First time tours only. Tony Conner's Flower Painting in Watercolor - with an Edge: 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, and 15. This class will focus on painting flowers in watercolor. In particular, the class will learn to use watercolor for accurately capturing the look of flowers and their unique and expressive edges. The class will work from direct observation of floral arrangements, and will create sketches and studies as preparation for more finished paintings. An Afternoon of Fabulous Style: Fashion Show, Style Workshop and Luncheon to Benefit the Manchester Community Library - 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 7. Join Kathryn Mademann, Lu French and a fabulous group of local celebrity models for an afternoon of style. Mademann will emcee a fashion show featuring the latest spring and summer styles from local shops, weaving in a lively discussion about finding personal style, the fit and colors that are right for an individual and the ability of a person to create a "wow" everyday.
