ARLINGTON - When Fisher Elementary students return to school in January after the holiday break, they will receive one more gift thanks to a $10,000 donation from Mack Molding and the endless fundraising efforts from the Fisher Parent Teacher Group. New playground equipment will be installed in late December after a two-year fundraising campaign finishes its first phase.

Two years ago, Fisher Principal Deanne Lacoste received word that the popular 12-foot slide on the school's playground would need to be removed because of safety concerns. Along with that notice, she learned that other pieces of equipment needed to be updated.

For the past two years, Lacoste has worked with the Fisher PTG to organize numerous fundraising events to offset the cost of new playground equipment.

"The Fisher PTG has been a tremendous force in securing this money. It's been time consuming, but we all agreed that this is where our energy would go, and it's paid off for our students. To have Mack's donation as well, is just wonderful for our community. Mack Molding has a longstanding tradition of partnering with Arlington schools, and we are grateful to Don Kendall for his support of Fisher students."

Mack Molding Chief Financial Officer Florence Belnap informed the school of the $10,000 gift.

"Mack strives to support the education and healthcare needs in the communities in which we work. We are happy to provide funding to Fisher for new playground equipment which helps promote a healthy lifestyle through active and interactive play.

Phase One of the Fisher Playground project includes purchasing a new multi-student playground structure, an arch swing set and a ten-spin merry-go-round. Phase Two of the fundraising campaign will provide additional stand-alone pieces of equipment including the much-anticipated slide.
