"We are so fortunate to have our students hear these amazing singers, who will perform a wide selection of music." DeBonis said, "This is our first year to have a fifth and sixth grade chorus program, and it will be an outstanding opportunity for our students to look up to these professional singers." According to the VSO's Eleanor Long, " . . . the four singers in "Ah! Cappella" are teachers as well as musicians, and expert at presenting a program that delights as it instructs."
"Ah!Cappella" members are: soprano - Claire Hungerford, of St. Albans; alto - Linda Radtke, of Montpelier; tenor - Cameron Steinmetz, of Rutland; and baritone - Brett Murphy, of Berlin.
These performances are part of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra's statewide SymphonyKids education program, which reached over 30,000 schoolchildren last year with 283 presentations serving 195 schools in 170 different communities.
"The VSO Symphony Kids programs are always high quality performances. Like Mrs. DeBonis, I am especially excited about the 'Ah! Cappella' vocal quartet because we have our new fifth/sixth grade chorus. The performance will provide the opportunity for students to hear vocal music from around the world, a valuable demonstration for children that often think the only vocal music available to them is the popular music they hear on the radio," said Mettawee's music teacher and choral director Lisa Hoyt A question-and-answer period will follow the performance allowing students to, "explore not only the group's multicultural musical choices, but the lives of professional Vermont musicians as well."
The visit by "Ah! Cappella" has been made possible through the generosity of Stewart's Shops.
