According to Race Director Mullainy Fine, the race was moved to Dorset this year to allow for a more rural and distinctive race course for the runners and walkers.
"Although The Pursuit of Wellness is held as a fundraiser to help combat pancreatic cancer, we want it to first and foremost be a rewarding and unique race for all participants," Fine said. "In my own experience and that of many of my friends and family, the town of Dorset is one of the most scenic and beautiful places in which to run or walk. We look forward to sharing our new 5K race course with prior years' runners as well as with new participants." All ages and ability levels are encouraged to participate.
Prizes will be awarded for the overall fastest male and female runners, the fastest junior and master runners as well as the first walker to finish. Race t-shirts will be awarded to all participants, as supplies last, on a first come first serve basis.
The first ever Dorset Pumpkin Fun Run will be an approximately one mile run around the block that begins with Playhouse Lane and Meadow Lane and will be open to children of all ages. The race course will be decorated with pumpkins and entrants are encouraged, although not required, to run in costume.
All proceeds from the Pursuit of Wellness and Pumpkin Fun Run will be donated to the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Pancreatic cancer is one of the world's deadliest forms of cancer with an extremely low survivorship rate. Early detection of this disease is rare and it is one of the hardest cancers to treat, partially because it is typically discovered so late.
More research and resources are needed to develop earlier detection methods and help improve survivorship rates for this deadly disease.
In its first two years, The Pursuit of Wellness has raised thousands of dollars for pancreatic cancer research. People of all ages are invited to join in the battle against this disease while enjoying a lovely autumn walk or run in the beautiful village of Dorset. Pre-registration is encouraged.
