Please meet at 8 a.m. at the Visitor's Center. The Hildene boardwalk across the wetlands east of the meadows off River Road is now complete and open providing a different vantage point to see migrating ducks, flocks of blackbirds or raptors.
October usually brings in large flocks of robins and the ground feeding woodpeckers - the Yellow-shafted Flicker.
Hummingbirds have left, but there are still warblers and kinglets to be found often at eye-level, but wearing their confusing fall plumage.
The free monthly bird walks are conducted as a collaborative event by the Vermont Bird Place & Skywatch and Hildene. They are open to all who enjoy birds, nature and the outdoors. Binoculars are available to borrow. The fields, garden areas and lawns around the main house are checked.
Participants then move to the River Road meadows and Battenkill wetlands east of the field.
