MANCHESTER - The numbers are ticking up for the 21st annual Komen Vermont Race for the Cure, which takes place at Hildene Meadows, in Manchester on Saturday, Sept. 21.

But as participation grows, so grows the need for volunteers, especially given the fact that this year's Race features a new 10K Race option, in addition to the traditional 5K Race and Walk.

Volunteers can do one or more of many things on Race Day as well as beforehand.

Prior to the race, for example, on Thursday Sept. 19 and Friday Sept. 20, many helping hands will be needed for set up.

To volunteer or register for the Race, visit to register on-line (click on Komen Race for the Cure tab). For any questions, email Volunteer Chair Mary Miller at, or call her at 802-362-0108. For more information, call the Race office at 802-362-2733. Seventy-five percent of all monies raised, at the races in Vermont and New Hampshire and through other events, underwrites breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in Vermont and New Hampshire - in 2012, $450,000 was granted to 16 organizations in the two states - while the remaining 25% is dedicated to breast cancer research.
