ARLINGTON - Second Chance Animal Center welcomes animal-lovers and shelter-supporters to their 54th Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 13, at the First Congregational Church in Manchester Village.

Steve Caporizzo, WTEN-Albany meteorologist and host of The Pet Connection, will be the guest speaker. Caporizzo is a long-standing advocate of homeless animals, and features needy pets from area shelters on his show.

In addition, Caporizzo started the Pet Connection Free Adoption Day in 1999, which has grown to be the largest single adoption clinic in New York State. Second Chance is part of this event, showcasing some of their adoptable animals at Curtis Lumber in Hoosick each May.

In recognition of his efforts, and on behalf of forgotten animals, SCAC President Judy Murphy will present Caporizzo with the 2013 Humanitarian Award.

Other 2013 awards will honor Steve Dunning and Jeff Linebeck, owners of Circa50 in Manchester.

They created a beautiful glass vessel, hand-blown by Andrew Weill of Manchester Hot Glass, to raise money for shelter pets. To date, their glass containers have raised more than $24,000. They will be receiving the President's Award.

Other special friends of Second Chance will be honored as well, including Volunteers of the Year, Dog-Walkers Laurie George, John Wright, Sara Bonthuis, and Pat Sullivan, and the staff-chosen Employee of the Year, Office Manager Devyn Miner.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments and a chance to socialize, followed by a short business meeting, the presentation of awards and then Caporizzo's program.

The public is invited to this free evening.

The church is located across from the Equinox Hotel, with plenty of parking in the rear, and is handicap-accessible.
