MANCHESTER - Equinox Village has announced that radio personality Naomi Arenberg will host the Exceptional Retiree Awards Presentation Dinner.

The dinner is planned for May.

"I have a real passion for the stories of older people," Arenberg said. "I love hearing about older people and what they have done and what they think." "Naomi's participation in the ERAs is a signal of the legitimacy and importance of the awards' mission," said Kirt Sampson, executive director of Equinox Village, the primary sponsor of the awards. "I am excited that this year's awards will certainly be better than ever."

After a Master's Degree in Education, Arenberg worked for 22 years hosting news and music programs for WGBH, Boston Public Radio.

Arenberg now announces on WBUR, Boston's NPR news station; teaches radio production at Cape Cod Community College; and works part-time for the NPR news magazine Living on Earth. In addition, Arenberg indulges her love of the stories of older adults in her work as an oral historian with "Songs and Stories Saved," an oral history service provided through A Tempo Senior Move, one of the cosponsor of the Exceptional Retiree Awards.

The Exceptional Retiree Awards (ERAs) honor Bennington and Windham County retirees who are using their retirement in exemplary ways: to expand relationships, to learn new things, to serve others. Through this program Equinox Village and its community partners (including At Home Senior Care, Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning, and Green Mountain RSVP & Volunteer Center, A Tempo Senior Move and Cornerstone Fitness & Prospect Rehabilitation) would like to identify examples of individuals that can be followed into vibrant older age and to generate excitement for what can be the richest time in one's life.

Nominations opened on Friday, Feb.15. Residents of Bennington and Windham Counties who are retired and over the age of 55 are eligible. Categories include Excellence in the Arts, Excellence in Continued Scholarship, Excellence in Health & Wellness and Excellence in Service & Community Leadership.

Nomination forms are available from Equinox Village by calling (802) 362-4061, by emailing abrenon@equinoxvillage.com or by visiting equinoxvillage.com /exceptional-retiree-awards.html. Nomination forms are also available by visiting or contacting any one of the sponsor organizations. The nomination deadline is Friday, March 29.

The top three nominees and nominators in each category will be invited to attend the awards presentation dinner in May, where the recipients will be announced. The winners will receive an engraved acknowledgement on the evening of the event.
