PERU - Ski for Heat 2013, the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing fund-raiser at Wild Wings Ski Touring Center in Peru, will be holding its lucky 13th annual event on Sunday, Jan. 27. Structured so that people of all ages and abilities can participate and have a good time, Ski for Heat raises money to benefit local low-income families and individuals with heating fuel assistance through the GMP Warmth Program at BROC.

"Wild Wings very generously donates the use of their facility, so there is no trail fee for participants, nor is there any fee to register or take part. Whatever donation(s) or pledges you bring in give you access to all the open trails to cross country ski or snowshoe," said event founder Martha Robertson. "It is important that anyone who wants to help make a difference has the opportunity to do so, so we make it fun and easy to help others. There are no requirements for distance or donations."

Participants may come and go during the day as their schedules allow. It is not a timed event and people cross country ski or snowshoe at their own comfort level and pace; there is terrain for beginners to experts.

"Peru tends to get more snow than surrounding areas, and Chuck and Ian do an amazing job of grooming, so it is always beautiful to be out there," Robertson said.

Clark's Quality Foods in Londonderry is the title sponsor for Ski for Heat 2013.

"We are thrilled to have their support again this year," said Robertson. "The Vermont Country Store is our premium sponsor."

The Manchester Lions and Write Solutions are silver sponsors. Bronze sponsors are Bromley Mountain, Finn & Stone Insurance, Northshire Bookstore, Price Chopper, and Vermont Fuel Dealers Association.

Animals are not allowed at the Ski for Heat event.
