LONDONDERRY - The Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad (LVRS) will be offering a first responder class (EMR) after the New Year. Completion of this course and passage of the state certification examination will qualify individuals as first responders.

The class begins Jan. 7, 2013 and runs Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 to 10 p.m. through mid-March. The cost is $175.

The class will be held at the Londonderry Rescue Squad building on Route 100.

Class size is limited and preference will be given to students who live in LVRS's immediate coverage area and plan to join the squad.

LVRS is looking for volunteers who live in LVRS' immediate coverage area, including the towns of Landgrove, Londonderry, Peru, South Londonderry, Weston, Windham, and Winhall. Class size is limited and students must be at least 18-years-old. LVRS will reimburse the cost of the course for volunteers who join LVRS and are accepted for membership after a six-month probationary period.

LVRS volunteers cover more than 250-square miles of territory and are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Since its founding in 1963, LVRS has provided free emergency medical and rescue services and ambulance transportation without billing its patients.
