Under the direction of Lucy Allen Tenenbaum, the women singers from all over Rutland county and beyond are presenting their annual Advent Concert, also at Trinity Church in Rutland on Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. and at St. Bridgit's in West Rutland on Nov. 25 at 2 p.m.
On Tuesday evening, the LNO choral group will bring to Weston a musical prelude to Christmas in a program of traditional and unusual seasonal music. VSO harpist Heidi Soons will accompany the chorus in performing John Rutter's sparkling "Dancing Day Cycle of Traditional Christmas Carols." With Jacob McLaughlin of Chester accompanying, another set of pieces will include African carols with percussion and drumming, an African-American Spiritual, a Shape Note song from the Early American Tradition, and other new and traditional carols. And of course, there will be sing-alongs to give everyone in the audience a chance to anticipate joyously the coming season.
The acoustics of the Church on the Hill are legendary, and its beauty by candlelight will put everyone in the mood both spiritual and festival for the beloved holiday. Light refreshments will follow the performance. There is no admission, but a donation will be gratefully received.
