BENNINGTON/MANCHESTER - United Counseling Service, The Collaborative, and Big Brothers Big Sisters are sponsoring a free skate at Riley Rink with help from DuFour Bus Tours.

Saturday, Oct. 27, students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades will be admitted free-of-charge to skate at Riley Rink in Manchester from 7 to 9 p.m.

Two DuFour buses will be available for students to take to Riley Rink. Buses will load at the Bennington Rec. Center. DuFour Buses will leave promptly at 5:30 p.m. and return at 9:45 p.m.

Middle School students from any school in Bennington County and adjacent areas will be admitted for the free program. Those planning to participate may bring their skates or rent skates for $6. Students will be asked to provide a school ID except for 6th graders.

"It's important for young people to have social events without drugs and alcohol," UCS Community Relations Director Robert Pini said. "The free skate is one of a series of events that offers area youth a healthy, substance-free social alternative."

"Our hope is to provide local youth with fun, affordable, substance free activities," said Chrissy Blaylock, Programs Coordinator at The Collaborative. "In addition to skate nights, we're looking for youth who want to plan substance-free events like movie nights or dances. When our youth feel empowered to do positive things, it's less likely they will turn to alcohol and drugs."
