BENNINGTON/RUTLAND COUNTY - From Nov. 1-30 free driver safety courses will be provided to all members of the U.S. armed forces - active duty, veteran, guard or reserve-regardless of age.

AARP Driver Safety is offering a free classroom course to individuals who serve or have served in the U.S Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or National Guard and Reserves. Spouses ( including domestic partners, widows and widowers), dependents and children are also eligible to take advantage of this offer.

Those interested in participating will need to fill out a special coupon, which an instructor will have, in order to qualify for the free course. Participants redeeming the free course will not be asked to provide any form of military identification.

Classes are being offered in Bennington, Bondville, Dorset, and Rutland.

The class in Dorset will be held at the church at the end of the green on Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Participants should bring lunch. Refreshments will be served. To register contact Frank at 802-287-4308.

The class in Bondville will take place at the Winhall Police Department on Route 30. on Nov. 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. To register contact Estelle at 802-375-4831.

The class in Bennington will take place at the Senior Center on Pleasant Street, on Nov. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To register contact Sue at 802-442-1052.

There will also be a class in Rutland at the Medical Center on Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. To register contact RRMC at 802-772-2400.

The course can be beneficial since traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads have changed over the years. Even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up their driving skills knowledge. The AARP Driver Safety course teaches valuable defensive techniques and provides a refresher about the Rules of the Road.

The course is being offered to veterans and all members of the U.S. Armed Forces to recognize and thank the military veterans for their service to the United States.
