Rich Marantz of Green Mountain Tai Chi leads interested seniors toward health and happiness using the methods and philosophies of Tai-chi chuan, Qigong and traditional Chinese external-qi healing. Advanced directives pertain to treatment preferences and the designation of a surrogate decision maker in the event that a person should become unable to make medical decisions on his or her own behalf. Physicians recommend that this is a topic important for all ages. Carolanne Marquis, executive director of the Southwestern Vermont Health Care Foundation; Martha M. Sunday, Oct. 21, Equinox Village 4 p.m. Walking Safely in the Winter: Preventing Falls for Seniors

Rich Marantz, Tai Chi & Qigong instructor, will guide participants through simple techniques and methods to help promote balance and prevent falls, especially during the slippery winter months. The workshop is derived from the principles and exercises of Tai Chi, which have been shown in numerous studies to lower the rate of falls in seniors. This workshop will consist of Tai Chi walking, the four basic components of stability and balance, proper body mechanics and situational awareness to keep people safe while walking in winter conditions. This workshop is free for Equinox Village Residents. The cost for the public is $10 per person. Call Kylee at 362-4061 to register.

Wednesday, Oct. 24, Equinox Village 3 - 4:30 p.m. Art Class: Mixed Media Painting with Collage

Traditional materials, along with torn paper and fabric, will be used to create what will likely be abstract works. It will be fun and freeing without the pressure of doing or painting something the "right way."
