MANCHESTER - The Manchester & the Mountains Bike Club (MMBC) and the Manchester Business Community are sponsoring "Take a Kid Mountain Biking" on Oct. 6 for children ages four to 12, rain or shine. A bike and a helmet are required.

The first 25 kids to register will receive a free t-shirt and/or water bottle.

Those wishing to participate may pre-register by calling Battenkill Sports at 362-2734. Registration will also be taking place at Riley Rink at Hunter Park beginning at 8 a.m. on Oct. 6. Those that register at Riley Rink may also have a tech from Battenkill Sports check over their bike. The Manchester Police Department and Amy Verner (certified league instructor) will conduct a safety course in the parking lot.

An adult volunteer from MMBC bike club will lead small groups of kids on a wooded trail.

This is the ninth annual running of this event by IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) and is being funded by Battenkill Sports and the Manchester Business Community.

The "Let's Move" initiative by Michele Obama suggests that youths between six and 17 get moving at least 60 minutes a day and adults at least 30 minutes a day.

Volunteers are needed to help on Saturday. The event is free of charge.
