Join Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. for a lecture entitled "Forecasting the 2012 Presidential Election."
The speaker will be Professor Matthew Dickinson of Middlebury College. This presentation will take place at the First Congregational Church in Manchester.
Contrary to what the media may say, the outcome likely will turn on factors largely out of either party's control, and which will have little to do with the presidential campaign itself.
With a Republican candidate now chosen as the nominee, Professor Dickinson will examine the state of the presidential race, focusing on what political science models tell us about Obama's reelection chances.
Dickinson is a professor of political science at Middlebury College.
He previously taught at Harvard University, where he also received his Ph.D., working under the supervision of presidential scholar Richard Neustadt, and was a Fellow in the Governmental Studies Program at the Brookings Institution.
Dickinson is the author of Bitter Harvest: FDR, Presidential Power, and the Growth of the Presidential Branch (Cambridge University Press) and co-editor of Guardian of the Presidency: The Legacy of Neustadt (The Brookings Institution).
He has also published numerous articles on the presidency, Congress, presidential decision making, and presidential advisers.
The registration fee for this program is $15.
