MANCHESTER - The Manchester Historical Society is raffling a painting by local artist Pam Marron. Titled "Lake Champlain Afternoon," this original oil painting features a central tree shading an empty park bench which overlooks Lake Champlain with mountains in the distance.

Marron, a well-known local artist, donated this work which she painted in Burlington by the lakeshore. Tickets are $3 each or four for $10. The drawing will be Sept. 19 when Jonathan Spiro will give an illustrated talk on the infamous eugenics movement in the U.S., which in the 1920s succeeded in restricting immigration, outlawing interracial marriage, sterilizing thousands of American citizens, and strongly influencing Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.
