The Pawlett Historical Society is inviting the public to visit the Braintree School on any one, or all three, of the following Saturdays in August - the 11th, 18th and 25th - from 10 a.m. 2 p.m.
The West Pawlet one-room schoolhouse was fully restored in 2008 and 2009, bringing it back to the way it was when it was built in 1852. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010 after the restoration project was complete. The schoolhouse, which served eight grades for 87 years, remains in its original location on VT Route 153, in what was a small settlement in West Pawlet known as Braintree, so named for New Braintree, Mass., from where its original settlers came.
