MANCHESTER - Mitch Magarian of Manchester is the 2012 recipient of the James G. Scieszka Memorial Scholarship Award, which was recently presented at Burr and Burton Academy's Scholarship Awards Program.

Magarian consistently earned honor roll status, was a member of the National Honor Society, and served as Student Council President in both his junior and senior years. He received the Headmaster's Citizenship Award, and for four years played as a member of the school's band.

He served as captain of both BBA's football and baseball teams, and also played varsity basketball. The son of Dean and Valerie Magarian of Manchester, Magarian will be attending The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina this fall.

This memorial award is presented annually in memory of Jim Scieszka, a BBA freshman who was killed in 1986. It is awarded to a graduating BBA senior who has excelled in academics, athletics, and who displays qualities of leadership and commitment to tasks.
