RUTLAND — An exhibit featuring the original works of Henry Gorski from the collection of Albert J. Levis, M.D. will open at the Chaffee Art Center on Friday, Sept. 11. The exhibit will extend through Oct. 11. Henry Gorski is a renowned artist whose works have been exhibited nationally and internationally. His art has been included in exhibits with Elaine de Kooning, Robert Rauschenberg, Saul Steinberg and Andy Warhol. The exhibit will open at the Chaffee Art Center on Friday, Sept. 11, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is free. For more information on Levis' theory go to www.arttoscience.org.

In 1972 Levis, in his psychiatric practice, was in the early stages of developing a conflict resolution theory. He sought a visual artist to depict his research and was introduced to Henry Gorski. They quickly developed a synergistic relationship. They were compatible emotionally, intellectually and politically. As the years have progressed, Levis' theory has been recognized as groundbreaking. As a result of his use of Gorski's art, Levis has collected a significant amount of the artist's original works.

The Chaffee exhibit presents the artist's own journey with a series of six cycles of conflict resolution played out as a three-part drama. It has taken Gorski a lifetime of painting to resolve his own life conflicts. In his work, he sequentially deals with

issues of finding his own identity, and coping with the striving for power and the sense of powerlessness. His resolutions portray a series of compromises that culminate with the peace of accepting reality. In his works, Gorski has "stolen the fire from the gods."
