MANCHESTER - The annual Green Up Day will be held in Manchester on Saturday, May 3, and volunteers of all ages are asked to report to the Chambe of Commerce parking lot at 9 a.m.

The town is divided into approximately 15 routes for clean up of roadside litter and there will also be some special projects at the town green and at the recreation area.

To help make the day fun, the clean up routes will be "salted" with colored blocks. Kids who find blocks as they pick-up litter may turn them in for prizes donated by local merchants. In addition, there is a trash sculpture contest. This year's theme is "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." The sculpture/statue must be put together with rubbish collected along the clean-up routes. It is suggested that anyone with old cross-country ski poles without baskets bring them as they make great pokers to get debris out of the ditches.

All participants are invited to partake in a hot-dog roast and ice cream at noontime. The meal is sponsored by The Spiral Press Cafe and will be held in the lot next to the Spiral Press Cafe. Call Bill Drunsic at 362-1516 or John O'Keefe at 362-1313 with any questions, comments or ideas to make this day successful and fun.

In cooperation with Casella Waste Management, tires will be accepted in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. There will be a charge of $3 per passenger and light truck tire and $5 per large truck tire. This is half of the usual charge at the transfer station/recycling center.
