Operation Strike Two: Sweep for Illegal Drug Trafficking in Bennington County Yields 16 Arrests

Bennington County, VT - 9/25/13 - Today, September 25, 2013, Operation Strike Two was initiated in Bennington County, VT targeting 23 defendants for the distribution and sale of illicit drugs, along with several other criminal offenses. Operation Strike Two is the culmination of a six month long investigation by the Vermont Drug Task Force.

"Our partnerships with municipal, state, and county law enforcement agencies, allow us to take productive steps deter the epidemic abuse of illicit drugs, that is driving crime and destroying the lives of our families and friends," said Chief Paul Doucette, Bennington Police Department.

"I feel very strongly about the opiate epidemic that is impacting Vermont," said Chief Michael Hall, Manchester Police Department. "The success of this operation is a another step forward for Bennington County in its fight with drugs and crime."

At the time of this release, Operation Strike Two arrested 16 defendants; seven others were not located and investigators will be pursing arrest warrants for those individuals; however it is anticipated that several of the targets are planning on turning themselves in to law enforcement authorities.

Today's arrestees were transported to either the Shaftsbury Barracks or Bennington Police Department for processing. Once processing was complete, defendants were taken directly to the Bennington County Courthouse for arraignment.

Defendants are still being arraigned, at the time of this release. The Bennington County State's Attorney will be seeking bail at arraignment; defendants that are lodged are likely to be taken to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility in Rutland. If convicted, each person faces between five and 20 years in prison.
