MANCHESTER - July 11th's opening-night concert of Manchester Music Festivals 39th summer series, Panoramas, will feature pianist Vassily Primakov performing Chopin's sweeping Sonata no. 3, in a program that includes Haydn's Quartet for Strings in E Flat Major and Rachmaninov's elegant Trio for Piano and Strings no. 2 in d minor.
In recent years, the 33-year-old, Moscow-born Primakov has been hailed as a pianist of world-class importance. Gramophone wrote that "Primakov's empathy with Chopin's spirit could hardly be more complete," and American Record Guide stated: "Since Gilels, how many pianists have the right touch? In Chopin, no one currently playing and recording sounds as good as this! This is a great Chopin pianist.

" Music Web-International called Primakov's Chopin concertos CD "one of the great Chopin recordings of recent times. These are performances of extraordinary power and beauty."
The July 11 concert will open with the Haydn quartet, featuring violinists Joana Genova and Irene Fitzgerald-Cherry, violist and MMF Artistic Director Ariel Rudiakov, and cellist Benjamin Elton Capps. Mr. Primakov's Chopin solo will follow, and he will be joined by Ms. Genova and Mr. Capps for the Rachmaninov trio.
MMF summer concerts take place on Thursday evenings from July 11 through August 22 at the Southern Vermont Arts Center's Arkell Pavilion in Manchester, Vermont, with a season-benefit pops concert featuring Audra McDonald on Sunday afternoon, August 25. Young Artist concerts are held on Mondays from July 8 through August 12 at Burr and Burton Academy's Riley Center for the Arts, also in Manchester.
