The two-week middle school camp is entitled "Global Citizenship and Leadership." Each morning, American students participate in Chinese language, calligraphy and cultural lessons with teachers from MSW's sister school in Sichuan Province, China while their Chinese counterparts learn English and American customs from MSW teachers. All students then come together to take part in dynamic, challenging, problem-based learning activities that teach young people about positive and effective collaborative leadership. Campers end each day enjoying various team-building excursions throughout beautiful southern and central Vermont, including canoeing, rock climbing and much more. This camp is for students entering grades five through nine and takes place from July 22 - July 26 and July 29 - Aug. 2. There are two additional weekend trips to Boston and Portland, Maine available as well.
The second camp is a three-day outdoor adventure mini-camp called "The Vermont Experience." This camp brings together students from MSW's two Sister Schools in Zhejiang Province, China to enjoy all that Vermont has to offer. Students will enjoy nature through a variety of hiking, swimming and canoeing experiences, including many team-building activities and cross-cultural connections.
The summer brochure can be found at school or online. Additionally, The Mountain School is looking for interested host families to house two to four (or more) Chinese students. Those interested in housing students for either camp should contact the office.
