Among the changes discussed were a $2,500 increase in building, auto, and liability insurance from $31,000 in fiscal year 2013 to $33,500 this year. The board will also look into health insurance in further detail before another meeting to discuss the budget on Monday, Jan. 14.
There will be a decrease in office equipment by $3,000 from $6,000 last fiscal year to $3,000 this year.
"We didn't really have a list of anything we needed except for the idea of a scanner, which is something we should have now that we have a Front Porch Forum website for the town of Danby," said Wright.
Front Porch Forum is a free community-based Web site that connects residents of the town and is only available to residents of that town who have chosen to sign up for free.
The Town of Danby is using a new system to present the budget and are now using the NEMRC system as recommended by the State. Previous troubles with the budget prompted the change, said Wright.
The NEMRC system stands for the New England Municipal Resource Center. Their goal is to provide technological and management resources to municipalities, schools, and non-profits. Products and services they provide include municipal software, one on one training, consulting, and support.
The Town of Danby is also looking into a possible upgrade of the town offices.
The first option is to analyze the cost of renovating the Holy Trinity Church into a town office. Wright said about three years ago the church closed and the building was offered to the town. The second option to look into is the upgrading of the current town offices and the third is to see how much it would cost to start from scratch and build an entire new town offices building.
On Monday, a brief discussion took place over what to do with the current Town Hall located at Danby Four Corners. Wright said this building is not used much with the exception of Town Meeting and other events such as weddings and parties that people rent to building for.
"Some people just want to stay the say and keep things as they are," said Wright. "They rent it our for parties and weddings but it is not a profitable situation. If they renovate the church and/or the town offices it seems likely town hall could be sold."
The Selectboard is hopeful to have the cost analysis completed by the time voting day arrives in March, said Wright. From there they can decide on the future of the town offices and of town hall.
Another meeting regarding the second portion of the budget will be discussed on Monday, Jan. 14 at the Danby town offices at 7 p.m.
