BRANDON -- Three-touchdown days from running back Eric Cerra and quarterback Jake Stalcup fueled Burr and Burton Academy to a 60-25 win over Otter Valley in Division II football on Saturday.
Cerra ran for three BBA (4-3) scores while Stalcup hit for a trifecta: The senior signal-caller racked up TDs running, passing and receiving. The rushing and receiving scores were the first of Stalcup's career.
Dalton Blackwell also caught a pair of touchdown passes. Senior Chris Redding notched touchdowns passing (to Stalcup) and returning an interception. Freshman running back Will Tucker ran for a score as well.
Burr and Burton, which needs to win its final two games and hope for a loss by either Milton (5-2) or Lyndon (5-2), hosts North Country this Friday at 7 p.m.
Storm fall to Warlords
MANCHESTER -- The Middlesex Warlords erased a 19-point deficit in the second half on Saturday night to oust the Southern Vermont Storm from the New England Football League playoffs with a 26-25 win at Applejack Field.
The Storm (7-4) led 19-6 at halftime after Mike Dunham's last-second touchdown catch and pushed the lead to 25-6 after the break but turnovers and miscommunication cost the hosts down the stretch, coach Tighe Stratton said.
Marcus Anderson and Mike Waters also scored for the Storm.
BBA handles Raiders
MANCHESTER -- Three unanswered goals powered the Burr and Burton Academy boys soccer team to a 3-1 win against
Hunter Cole staked the Raiders (4-7-1) a lead early in the first half but a Bobby Weeks penalty kick and a strike from Reid Conde, with Weeks assisting, gave BBA (12-0) the edge at halftime.
Eight minutes into the second half, Axel Sapera latched onto a ball from Zack Stewart to notch the game's final goal. Goalkeeper Mike Nolan made eight saves for BBA.
Eagles, Rebels draw
ARLINGTON -- The Arlington Memorial High School girls soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Leland & Gray on Saturday at the Arlington Rec. Park.
Becca Solari shot the Eagles (7-3-1) into the lead before the Rebels answered with two goals before halftime. Rayleen Sherman's equalizer early in the second half stood as the final tally as Leland & Gray goalkeeper Elizabeth Gallup put in an "outstanding" performance to repel the hosts, according to Arlington coach Dan Wood.
Wasps sting BBA
WOODSTOCK -- Burr and Burton Academy kept Woodstock off the board for most of the game before yielding a trio of late goals in a 3-0 field hockey loss on Saturday.
Cassie Bowen made 11 saves for Burr and Burton (0-11). Goals from Hannah Tobey, Clancy Farrand and Holli Olson lifted the Wasps (6-5) back above .500 for the season.
