MANCHESTER CENTER — Meira Levin, a weaving student at the Winged Arts Summer Program at Maple Street School, recently won first place in two weaving categories at the Wyoming County Fair in Meshoppen, Pa. A student of Dianne Yelton, Levin learned and excelled at weaving, first using a table loom and later moving to a floor loom. Her pieces, which were made this summer at Winged Arts, were entered in two divisions of woven arts, children and adult, and she won first place in both divisions. Levin, from Clarks Summit, Pa., spends her summers visiting her grandparents in Pawlet, and was introduced to Winged Arts six years ago.

Founded in 1999, Winged Arts Studio promotes the development of a life-long love of the arts for children in a relaxed and joyful setting. It is truly an artist's camp where local artisans teach and instruct classes. Serving children ages seven through 12, Winged Arts Studio takes place at Maple Street School for two weeks following the end of the school year. More than 30 percent of participants each year receive financial assistance.
