Granting the extension gives Bay View Loan Servicing, LLC until June 19 before the local permit expires.
Bay View's attorney E. Patrick Burke submitted a letter to the DRB requesting an extension to allow more time for Bay View to finalize its application for an Act 250 demolition permit, according to the DRB's meeting minutes.
"Bay View and the party that has the contract thought it would be prudent to follow state guidelines as well as local guidelines. And state guidelines dictate that the regional Act 250 office as well as the Office of Historic Preservation be involved in the discussions regarding demolition and not just the Development Review Board of Manchester Village," said Joe Cardillo, a broker associate with Wason Associates who represents Bay View Loan Servicing, LLC. "Because this building is in the historic core of Manchester Village, Bay View and the party that has it under contract is just being prudent and ensuring that they have the approval on the local level and the state level as well."
Cardillo said it was his understanding that demolition would occur as soon as it was approved on every level.
The Development Review Board approved the demolition of the Village
A spokeswoman for the Village, Amy Swinarton, said Manchester Fire Chief Phil "Grub" Bourn's report on the building weighed heavily into the DRB's decision.
"The fire chief's report was a very significant factor. There were many safety hazards," said Swinarton in a telephone interview on Tuesday. "That was very significant."
An application by Manchester Hotel Associates, LLC to construct a three-story, 80 room Hampton Inn in the location of the Village Country Inn and the adjoining Nickelwhite property was unanimously denied by the DRB in early April last year.
