Six schools will perform throughout the day. Green Mountain Union High School and Twin Valley High School will perform in the first block of shows at 10:15 a.m. Green Mountain will perform the comedy, "Check, Please"; Twin Valley will perform "The Bridge," a mature look at the story of the Billy Goats Gruff.
At 2:30 p.m., Long Trail will perform "Macbeth, A Tale of Darkness" followed by Rutland's performance of "The Witch's Lullaby." The evening performances beginning at 7:00 pm include "I Don't Want to Talk About It" presented by Springfield High School; and "Asylum" presented by Fair Haven.
Involved in regional competitions since 1990, Long Trail School has hosted these festivals numerous times. While the festival celebrates all six schools' performances, it is also a competition which identifies the schools which will participate in the Vermont State Competition in Randolph on April 5-6. LTS Drama Director and IB Theatre Arts teacher Tracey Wesley is excited and proud of her troupe.
"As Vermont Drama Council President, I know how many talented kids are out there producing great shows every year. I love hosting the regionals as it brings all that talent to one place. It is incredible to see these students working together and supporting each other. It does not feel like a competition. Every school roots for everyone else's production. Lasting friendships are formed. And I am especially proud of how well our students host. They are always welcoming and supportive and help to make this a great day."
The afternoon and evening shows have more mature themes and might not be as suitable for younger children. Since the festival is also a competition, it is suggested that very young children do not attend as they may be distracting to the performers on stage. Tickets for the shows are $5.00 for a block of two shows and $10.00 for all six performances. Seating may be limited. Come and enjoy this great opportunity to sample the talents of Vermont student actors! For further information, please contact Tracey Wesley at 802-867-5717 x104 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
