Kate Miskovsky will be exhibiting some of her works of art at the Dorset Library, beginning March 5.

DORSET >> The featured artist at the Dorset Public Library during the month of March will be artist Kate Miskovsky. The public is invited to meet her at the opening reception on Saturday, March 5, from 11-1 p.m. Refreshments will be served. All works are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the library.

Kate Rooney Miskovsky, a native of Washington DC, was influenced not only by her parents who were also artists, but through her exposure to the city's vibrant art scene, from small side street galleries to awe-inspiring art museums. Since those early years she has taken numerous workshops across the U.S, and participated in many shows, both solo and group. Most recently she attended a week long plein air painting workshop on Monhegan Island off the coast of Maine. Many of the paintings in the show are a reflection of her work while on the island that has inspired many artists for over a century.

"For me, painting is about the process of capturing a moment in time; exploring the play of light, shadow and color, and the challenge of translating this onto a canvas. I paint for the sheer joy of it," she said.

Miscovsky works in oil, watercolor and acrylic, focusing on intimate, vibrantly colorful compositions. She currently resides in Manchester, Vermont.

The library's hours are Monday-Friday, 11-5 p.m. and Saturday 10-3 p.m. Call 802-867-5774 for more information.
