MANCHESTER >> The Southern Vermont Art Center will run a trip to Italy this spring for a week of making art and exploration of the Tuscan countryside. The tour is designed for artists and their partners who would like to immerse themselves in the beauty of Italy in the spring. The trip will take place from April 23-30, 2016.
Students will have ample opportunity to paint, with plein air sessions led by professional artist and frequent SVAC instructor, T.J. Cunningham. Students will have the choice of landscape and village locations to capture the essence of the Italian countryside.
Students will spend seven nights in an Italian villa in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, surrounded by 15 acres of land planted with olive trees, fruit trees, and medicinal plants. There will be ample opportunity to sample Italian food and wine. There will be day excursions to Assisi, home of St. Francis, and an excursion to Siena, among the most beautiful cities in all of Italy.
Non-painting partners, photographers, and others are welcome on the tour, with optional day tours available to explore the rolling hills around Pienza and Montepulcino, an area designated a UNESCO Cultural Landscape Site by the UN.
Cicely Carroll, owner of Travel Fever Tours in Putney, VT, will lead and coordinate group activities during the tour. An option for participants will be a cooking class, featuring preparation of Italian specialties. As an additional option, participants can add a side trip to Florence or Rome to visit museums and other sights.
